Families are being asked to maintain safe practices outside of the school day to help limit the spread and to allow students to access in-person education to the greatest extent possible.

School districts across Illinois have recently been asked to return students to in-person learning as they are able. The Restore Leadership Team has been meeting to discuss the impact of new IDPH guidance on a mode change for in-person learners, and we are pleased to announce that a decision was made today to return to in-person learning every day beginning on April 6th. The new IDPH guidance allows for social distancing at three feet in classrooms which eliminates the need for a hybrid, Crimson/Gold schedule. Families do not need to opt into these changes: remote families will remain remote and in-person families will remain in person.
There will not be any changes to daily schedules, lunches, or bus routes. The mode change does not impact fully remote families, including those in the BVA. We have updated the FAQ section on the Restore page. Please refer to it for additional information.

The Illinois Department of Public Health and the Illinois State Board of Education just released Revised Public Health Guidance for Schools that prioritizes in-person learning for all Illinois Communities. The guidance may allow us to expand our in-person instruction this spring. We are reviewing the updated mitigation strategies to determine how this will impact BPS101. Few, if any, changes will be made to our in-person learning plan before spring break. By that time, the majority of our staff will have been fully vaccinated. Watch for updates in our weekly Restore BPS101 messages and on our Restore BPS101 website which will be updated over the next days and weeks with the new guidance.

BPS101 is carefully examining all potential paths for the 2021-22 school year, and we look forward to sharing an update with you as soon as possible. Some future planning is taking place at the Board of Education level including changes to kindergarten for the fall. Read the full message here.

The newly updated CDC guidelines for K-12 schools affirm our current modes of learning and use of mitigation strategies in BPS101. For more about the indicators and thresholds, see the updated guidance on the CDC website.

There are several Community Resources available to our District families in this time of change. In addition, two resources have recently been created specifically to help local families that are balancing school and work.

New this week, Kane County moved to Tier 1 Mitigation on Tuesday, January 26. The reduction in restriction does not impact our learning plan or school schedule during school hours. We will continue to enforce social distancing of at least 6 feet, the hand washing protocol, and mask wearing, along with the hybrid schedule. One change for us will be group size for meetings and before/after school activities which is now up from 10 to 25.

Kane County moved to Tier 2 Mitigation on Monday, January 18. Here is a link to detailed information on Tier 2 from the Illinois Department of Public Health. We would like to be clear that the reduction in restriction does not impact our learning plan or school schedule during school hours. We will continue to enforce social distancing of at least 6 feet, the hand washing protocol, and mask wearing, along with the hybrid schedule. If interested in learning about vaccinations in Illinois, follow this LINK for information from the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Today is the first day of the second half of the 2020-21 school year for students. Crimson hybrid students attended onsite today, while Gold and remote only students attended virtually. Kindergarten, first grade, and identified populations returned in everyday mode.
As of today, the Kane County Health department does not have a sign-up to receive the COVID vaccination, but they do have a sign-up to get notified of updates on the process. You can sign-up on their website HERE.

Our winter break begins on Monday, December 21st, and classes will resume on Wednesday, January 6th. We will resume our Crimson/Gold rotation for most in-person learners on January 6th, which is a Crimson Day. Some identified groups, including kindergarten and the addition of first-grade students, will be in everyday mode starting January 6th. District families can plan for this to be the schedule for the remainder of the school year.
December 9, 2020
In-person learning resumes tomorrow. Gold students and everyday students (including kindergarten students) will return tomorrow; Crimson students will return on Friday, December 11th. The full Crimson/Gold schedule can be found here.
December 2, 2020
At BPS101, we have weighed all of the factors and determined that our return to in-person learning will begin on Thursday, December 10th. Gold students and everyday students (including kindergarten students) will return on that day; Crimson students will return on Friday, December 11th. The full Crimson/Gold schedule can be found here.
November 16, 2020
Beginning Thursday, November 19th, all BPS101 students will learn remotely. This “adaptive pause” is temporary; the tentative return date is Monday, December 7th. Today’s Messenger about the adaptive pause can be found here, and the related FAQs can be found here. Messenger in Spanish.

The district continues to monitor the rising COVID case count in Kane County and our Region. As the numbers rise, so has our reliance on the advice of the Kane County Health Department. The Health Department is still advising us that there is a minimal spread of COVID cases in schools in Kane County. For now, the Health Department will continue to advise us about our ability to maintain in-person learning on a case-by-case basis. The District has pivoted to remote several times as a mitigation strategy for classrooms when necessary, and we will continue to use this mitigation strategy when conditions warrant remote learning.
Choice Week for Second Semester: Now that the second semester is approaching, we are offering families the opportunity to switch between remote and in-person classes. The deadline for change requests is November 20 and can be made HERE. The new mode will be in effect from January 6th through the remainder of the 2020-21 school year. Unless the guidelines from the Illinois Department of Public Health change, in-person learners will remain on a Crimson/Gold Hybrid schedule for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year.
October 26, 2020
We started every day learning for kindergarteners on Monday, October 26th. Principals are doing frequent walkthroughs of the classrooms and frequent check-ins with the teachers to evaluate this new mode. Our next identified group for everyday learning is our first graders. We have begun the planning process to bring them back every day starting sometime in November, but we are pausing those plans temporarily. If our Region doesn’t take a turn for the better, there may be new regulations that could impact schools. We want to avoid too many transitions for these students so we are pausing the plans for now. We are continuing to phase students back into RMS as was communicated earlier in the month. All in-person students, except kindergarten and specially identified groups, are still following the crimson/gold hybrid schedule.

RMS and BHS will be moving to the Hybrid Mode, an every other day learning mode. Dates for the switch from remote to hybrid for RMS and BHS students have been determined to allow for time to plan the details and to align with the beginning of a new grading period. Crimson and gold designations are still determined by last name: (A-L) labeled as crimson and (M-Z) labeled gold. You can see the Crimson/Gold designation for your student on the home page in PowerSchool.

We have updated the Academic Calendar to reflect the decision to proceed with caution based on local health conditions. At this time, we believe elementary schools will continue with the hybrid Crimson/Gold schedule and RMS and BHS will add small groups of students to their in-person population. Elementary students are adjusting well to the hybrid schedule and safety measures in schools which have put us in a position to be confident that this is still a successful mode for those students.
August 25, 2020
Now that school has started, will there be any changes to the plan? The Leadership team continues to meet weekly to monitor guidance, assess local conditions, and make changes to the plan as needed. At this time there are no changes.
What is the plan for allowing additional students at the secondary level to access in-person learning? Both RMS and BHS are working on plans to allow priority groups of students to return. Return to school plans will be communicated directly to the families. BHS and RMS item pickup will be communicated this week. September 3rd and 4th are tentative dates.
August 11, 2020
We are one week away to the opening of the 2020-21 school year. Our schedules have been finalized, and PowerSchool is now open for families to view schedules and teachers. On Wednesday, August 19th, we will welcome everyone back to school in different ways:
August 5, 2020
Please note these recent changes to the Restore BPS101 plan:
Why the need for changes?
1. The complexity of creating on-site and remote schedules for students at the middle and high schools, especially given the back-to-school timeline.
2. Teacher feedback that some aspects need adjustment.
August 5, 2020: The Restore BPS101 plan was modified for middle and high school students to start remotely.
July 31, 2020: The plan for fall sports was released.
